The Renaissance Europe’s “Rebirth” 1300-1600

Reasons for Renaissance Increased trade (Venice), Crusades and the Black Death make people become more secular = more interesed in this world than that of the afterlife Leads to the idea of Humanism = individual and human society are important as well as faith and afterlife People begin to look back to the ancient Greeks and Romans for knowledge and learning = rebirth of these ideas! Led to a search for new ideas and great achievements in art, science, literature, math, medicine + inventions

But religion doesn’t disappear…

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Artists of the Renaissance Donatello – “Father of Sculpture” Raphael Sanzio – Painted many “frescoes” in the Vatican. Famous for “School of Athens” Michelangelo – great Italian artist and sculptor (Sistine Chapel, David) Leonardo da Vinci – Italian artist, inventor and scientist (The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, dissections of animals, interest in flight)

Printing Press vs. Internet

I. The Printing Press Johannes Gutenberg - German inventor of the printing press This allowed for the mass production of books for the first time in history Large number of books = increase in reading and writing = more knowledge Promoted the rapid expansion of information and ideas – just like the Internet does for our society today!
