Chemistry is usually taken the Jr. year in High School If a student is on a fast track it is taken as a sophomore.

Science Courses Offered at WHS Earth Science (Honors & Academic) Biology (Honors & Academic) Chemistry Physics (Conceptual & Physics) Environmental Explorations AP Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) Independent Science Research (12 th grade)

What Would I Do In Chemistry? What Do Chemists Do? Whatever they want. Some chemists work in a lab, in a research environment, asking questions and testing hypotheses with experiments. Other chemists may work on a computer developing theories or models or predicting reactions. Some chemists do field work. Others contribute advice on chemistry for projects. Some chemists write. Some chemists teach. The career options are extensive.

What Do I Need To Know (Pre-requisite Knowledge/Skills) You should have completed High School Biology And you should be in or have taken Algebra II with a strong working knowledge of Algebra I. You will be using math on a daily basis

What Makes a Student Successful in Chemistry? The ability to work well with math/ specifically algebra expressions. Strong study skills of at least one hour per night A active participation in class and lab is a must. A strong work ethic.

Why Do Students Take This Course? Chemistry is a serious class for serious students. Chemistry is for students who hope to enter fields of study in medicine, science, and engineering Chemistry is for student seeking an advance diploma. Chemistry is for students wishing to ‘stretch’ their academic abilities. Chemistry is a science elective to be taken by serious students.
