The Call of Samuel Read: 1 Sm 1,2,3, What happens? “Speak, for your servant is listening”

Eli Teaches Samuel How to Pray “Speak Lord..” This is an invitation. It shows openness and readiness, it shows your recognition of God;”You are the Almighty, and I am ready to hear what you have to say.”

Eli Teaches Samuel How to Pray,2 “…For your servant…”This shows humility. It is recognition of yourself: “ I am your servant. It is my desire to do what you want. My life’s purpose is to serve you.”

Eli Teaches Samuel How to Pray,3 “…is listening.” this demonstrates your response: “ I am not going to ignore you. I am not going to daydream or just pretend to pay attention. I will take in your message, and it will become part of me.”

1and 2 Kings Slide 2 The books of Kings shows the achievement of the kings. Above all it teaches that the Kings’ faithfulness to God is crucial to the life of all of Israel.

Overview of the Kings Samuel anoints and appoints the first 2 kings of Israel Saul is considered a tragic figure in the O.T. He starts out well but ends in disobedience to God and finally suicide.

David unifies the Kingdom, establishes Jerusalem as the capital, begins Psalm literature. David wants to build a temple for God but Nathan tells him his son will build it. The great prophecy!>Messianic Prophecy! David commits grave sins. Murder and adultery Nathan “teaches” David with a parable David repents and his second son by Bathsheba becomes king.

Behind the scenes Kings and prophets walk together in the O.T. Nathan is David’s prophet David and Bathsheba would have believed this:“ Sins of the fathers are visited on the sons.” why?
