Why MyPlate? Introduced by Michelle Obama. Simple way to challenge people to be healthy eaters! Introduce a way to eat healthy on a budget. Ability to track your physical activity and eating.

Balancing calories Enjoy your food, but eat less! Avoid oversized portions. How many calories are you supposed to have a day? Girls: 1800 Boys: 2200 What happens if I don’t get all my calories? Not getting enough calories will result in you gaining weight because it slows down your metabolism.

Foods to increase Make half your plate fruits and vegetables. Make at least half your grains whole grains. Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk. Equal calcium, less fat Your plate should be an array of colors!

Foods to reduce Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals – and choose the foods with lower numbers. Drink water instead of sugary drinks How much of our body is water? 70% > half your body weight Water is key to > digestion, perspiration, immune system What food products contain water?
