US&FCS Partnership Opportunities The Strategic Partnership Program Matt Kennedy, Director

The NEI Is the Obama Administration’s Commitment to Serve As a Full Partner with U.S. Businesses to Promote American-made Goods and Services Worldwide, within Global Trading Rules. 2 “So tonight, we set a new goal: We will double our exports over the next five years, an increase that will support two million jobs in America.” President Obama State of the Union January 27, 2010 The NEI is focused on: (1)improving trade advocacy and export promotion efforts, (2) increasing access to credit, especially for small and medium-sized businesses, (3) removing barriers to the sale of U.S. goods and services abroad, (4) robustly enforcing trade rules, and (5) pursuing policies at the global level to promote strong, sustainable, and balanced growth.

Our Global Network of Trade Professionals Connect U.S. Companies with International Buyers Worldwide.  The U.S. Commercial Service provides U.S. companies unparalleled access to business opportunities around the world.  As a U.S. Government agency, we have relationships with foreign government and business leaders in every key global market.  Our trade professionals provide expertise across most major industry sectors.  Every year, we help thousands of U.S. companies export goods and services worth billions of dollars. 3

 Trade Counseling. Get the information and advice you and your clients need to succeed.  Market Intelligence. Target the best trade opportunities.  Business Matchmaking. Connect with the right partners and prospects.  Commercial Diplomacy. Ensure your members’ products and services have the best possible prospects for success in international markets. We Work with You to Connect Your Members with the Right Opportunities Abroad. 4 Overcome Challenges U.S. Commercial Service Business Approach

The Strategic Partnership Office The Strategic Partnership Office’s objective is to create partnerships between the US& Foreign Commercial Service and U.S. businesses and associations with the goal of broadening and deepening the U.S. exporter base. In doing so, Commercial Service Strategic Partnership Program’s team of four account managers creates triple win scenarios:  National export objectives are supported;  Partners deliver valuable information to help their customers and members grow; and  More small- and medium-sized businesses get the export assistance they need to be successful and maintain good American jobs at wages 13 to 18 percent higher than workers in non-exporting firms. 5 “We’ll create public-private partnerships to help firms break into new markets with the help of those who have been there – shipping and supply-chain companies, for example.” President Obama Export-Import Bank Annual Conference March 11, 2010

How Can We Partner? Join the New Market Exporter Initiative! Increase your members’ international sales by actively encouraging your members who are currently exporting to expand their exports and using CS services for finding buyers in new markets. How will this work? Step 1: Companies will register on Step 2: A Trade Information Center Specialist will contact your member in 3-5 days and will refer him/her to the local US&FCS Account Specialist. Step 3: The US&FCS Account Specialist will help your members identify new export markets. Step 4: The account specialist will work with your members and our colleagues in the U.S. Embassy/Consulates to help your member to connect with international potential partners in the target markets through one of US&FCS’ many services. Step 5: Your clients negotiate with their potential partners and sign the contracts and start selling their products! 6

US&FCS Partnerships Provide Benefits to Your Members. If you partner with US&FCS your members will receive:  Expert advice on new export markets  Access to free on-line market research reports  Opportunities for export training  Access to US&FCS’ worldwide network  Expert advice, local contacts and market intelligence from our specialists who are located in your targeted markets  Matchmaking Services to locate distributors and representatives 7

Other Strategic Partnership Options  Make the Export Promotion Pledge – Simple and easy, you’ll be recognized on our website as making the pledge with a link to your website; work with CS to send out relevant export information to your constituency, learn about sponsorship opportunities and get CS speakers for your events and meetings.  Become an Export Promotion Partner – In addition to the opportunities in the pledge, you can display the logo on your website, organize joint events, develop joint content and conduct cross-trainings for staff.  Join the Global Buyer Initiative - Improve your customers’/members’ supply chain by targeting current importers with a sales promotion about importing from the U.S. and CS services for finding U.S. suppliers.  Join all of the above or Define Your Own Partnership Project – Through a no cost procurement, submit your proposal to take the partnership nationwide or global through the above initiatives or by proposing your own idea. 8

Partnership Benefits to Your Organization A Partnership with the US&FCS:  Enhances member recruitment The NMEI program attracted 17 of the associations 283 new members  Enhances retention Our trade association partners reported that 96%NMEI participants renewed their memberships as compared to the associations’ current retention rate of 94%  Enhances revenues 37% of the NMEI participants increased their dues as compared to 8.3% of their overall membership The average increase in membership dues in 2011 was $452 compared to an average increase for the years of $194. UPS and FedEx have reported increased shipments as a result of the NMEI program 9

Who Are Our Partners? 10

Partner Feedback on the Strategic Partnership Program’s Benefits “Manufacturers have benefitted from the NAM’s strategic partnership with the US&FCS. NAM members looking to expand their export sales have found valuable counseling, market research and matchmaking services through US&FCS’ one-stop shop. Our partnership continues to open doors for manufacturers to locate potential distributors, sales representatives and buyers with greater ease and efficiency. We look forward to helping NAM members reach even more international markets because more exports means more jobs.” Jay Timmons President and CEO The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) 11

Partner Feedback on the Strategic Partnership Program’s Benefits "The U.S. Commercial Service is a wonderful resource for companies to start exporting or grow their exports. They are professionals who give good unbiased advice and they have boots on the ground in all of our key trading partners. They know local communities and customs, are fluent in the language, and will connect you with honorable players in those markets. In Asia, the U.S. Commercial Service set up business matchmaking appointments for me, provided translation services, and even arranged a driver for me to get around. The National Association of Manufacturers and United Parcel Service are part of the U.S. Commercial Service Strategic Partnership Program, so our company was able to gain additional advantages through the NAM New Market Export Initiative. Through the NAM NMEI program I was able to meet prospective Korean and Vietnamese buyers for my products. These buyers, engineers and plant managers, are very difficult to reach but the NAM NMEI program made it happen!“ Drew Greenblatt President, Marlin Steel, NAM Board Member 12

Partner Feedback on the Strategic Partnership Program’s Benefits “The US Commercial Service has been an invaluable asset in helping our customers explore new export opportunities efficiently. The trade expertise and knowledge this organization offers is unrivaled and lays the foundation for solid, sustainable global trade growth.” Michael L. Ducker COO FedEx Express 13
