Presentation transcript:

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Associate Awards and Technical Assistance Theo Dillaha, Program Director SANREM CRSP The SANREM CRSP is made possible by the United States Agency for International Development and the generous support of the American people through Cooperative Agreement No. EPP-A

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Leader with Associate Award (LWA) Type of Cooperative Agreement designed to facilitate additional buy-in/funding from USAID Missions and Offices. Because of the Leader Award, the SANREM is pre-qualified to do related SA and NRM work for USAID.

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Key: Engaging Missions Keeping the Mission informed Coordinating activities with Missions Courtesy/mandatory travel notification Understanding Mission objectives and programs Key Mission staff (Mission Director, Program Officers, SO Team Leaders) Geographic location of other activities

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Engagement Opportunities Presentations for USAID staff and implementing partners Attending USAID partners’ meetings Identifying analysis/research that will feed Mission’s strategic planning processes Associate Awards…

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech What is the Leader? What is the Associate? Terminology refers to Awards not to recipients The Leader is the initial award (the SANREM award to the ME) Associate Awards are additional awards or buy-ins from Missions or other offices to the SANREM.

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Associate Award Process 1.Mission drafts description of Technical Needs 2.SANREM AOTR reviews 3.Mission Contacts ME with request 4.ME & Mission develop full Scope of Work 5.ME identifies appropriate technical expertise 6.Award is signed Caution: You cannot use USAID funds to solicit USAID funds, so if you are working on an associate award, you must be doing so on non- USAID funds.

Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech What are the benefits of Associate Awards for Missions ? Saves time: no competition required Saves effort: Mission award documents are simplified compared to other finding mechanisms Improves tracking: Financial reporting goes directly to Missions Direct technical reporting to Missions
