Introducing the IOE: the History 2 Founded in October 1902 and based in central London at the London Day Training College (LDTC) As University of London and London County Council At least 4 different identities 1932 became Institute of Education 1949 an institute of 30 associated colleges and departments of education, responsible for training 1 in 4 new teachers in England and Wales 1987 awarded royal charter – independent college and school of University of London
