2 Introducing the IOE Founded in 1902 and part of the University of London Original mission: to train teachers for London as the London Day Training College Current mission: to pursue excellence in education and related areas of social science and professional practice Number one in the UK for education research (RAE 2008) 7 th worldwide for education studies and 3 rd for education research citations (QS 2013) Still training over 1200 new teachers every year – training judged “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2013 Ranked top with 97% in student satisfaction in 2013 (National Student Survey)
