 Discuss what you saw, thought, and wondered with your table partner.

 Read the following sections in the student planner:  Academic Integrity  Attendance  Use the Connect, Extend, Challenge Protocol  Connect – what can you connect with personally? What connects to prior knowledge?  Extend – where in the text were your thoughts pushed to the next level?  Challenge – what questions do you still have left?

 With your Elbow Partner, discuss your thoughts on academic integrity and attendance.  Have a brief whole class discussion.

 You are in High School and Final Grades count!! Your grades will help to determine your Post High School Plan.  Teachers will communicate how they will determine final grades with you – should be in their syllabus. If not, you need to ask.  You need to be checking your grades often. If it is not the grade that you desire, ask your teacher what you can do to improve your grade.  You will receive a report card after 6-weeks, 12- weeks, and 18-weeks of each semester. The Grade on the 18-week report is your final grade – THIS IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS!!!

 Find a partner  Form 2 circles – one partner will be in the outside circle and the other will be in the inside circle  Stand facing each other  For each round, the inside circle will move however many people your teacher calls (for each question you will have a new partner).

 What are Costa’s Levels of Questions?  Read the following sections in the planner  Grade level Designation  Guidance  Hall Passes  Harassment  Write at least 1 question for each level of questioning to discuss during Socratic Seminar

1. Understand the central statement/question or topic 2. Listen carefully even if you don’t agree 3. Only one person speaks at a time 4. Summarize the previous speaker’s argument before responding 5. Remember “Three before me.” (3 people need to speak before I can speak again.) 6. Address the ideas, not the person stating them 7. Maintain order and keep an open mind.

 Sign off on the handbook form! Each 6 th period teacher will pass out a handbook form to sign and return it to the teacher TODAY, before you leave class.  Staff- please collect these signed forms and return them to the main office. Thanks!
