SIFAKAS A Sifakas’ behavior

The Sifakas’ Family Family ranges from 3-10 members Females have dominance within the group Females have primary access to the food and nesting areas, males have to wait and let the females finish or they risk of being hit.

Lifestyles Living on trees, barely seen on the land/ground Mainly active during the day but are able to adapt at nighttime due to their precise sense of smell, hearing and vision. Sifakas have spent most of their time in trees but since their habitats have been interfered with such as timber being cut down they have learned how to cross lands with sideward and forward hops while in an upright position.

Matting Females decide who they will mate with She may select one or more males from her own group, or she may even go beyond her own group to find another male. Males will fight to try and get the attention of the female, but she will not always select the winner, instead she might choose due to a scent that is given off by the male Matting season is between January and March then give birth in 162 days.

Matting cont’ Young ones are carried on the mothers’ chest for a few weeks, then climb on her back for abut 6 months. Once they are 1 year of age they are considered mature.
