All certified staff need to write professional development learning goals. A minimum of three learning goals are required. Individual Professional Development Plan GOALS

All learning goals must align with the Standards for Ohio Teachers 1.Teachers understand student learning and development, and respect the diversity of the students they teach. 2.Teachers know and understand the content area for which they have instructional responsibility. 3.Teachers understand and use varied assessments to inform instruction, evaluate and ensure student learning. 4. Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student.

All learning goals must align with the Standards for Ohio Teachers 5.Teachers create learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. 6.Teachers collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators, and the community to support student learning. 7.Teachers assume responsibility for professional growth, performance and involvement as an individual and as a member of a learning community.

Those working toward license renewal need to choose workshops, activities, and college courses, that directly relate to their personal learning goals. All professional development must align to your personal learning goals

SAMPLE LEARNING GOAL: I will develop instructional strategies for Language Arts that align with state standards. OHIO STANDARDS MET: #2 Teachers understand and use instructional strategies to effectively teach concepts. #4 Teachers align their instructional goals and activities to Ohio Academic Content Standards, and deliver instruction to close the achievement gap. POSSIBLE COURSEWORK: instructional strategies class, courses to further knowledge in Language Arts

SAMPLE LEARNING GOAL: I will learn to use technology as a tool to help students be more active learners. OHIO STANDARDS MET: #1 Teachers understand what students are able to do and use the knowledge to meet the needs of students. #2 Teachers understand and use instructional strategies to effectively teach concepts. #4 Teachers use information about student learning to deliver instruction to close the achievement gap. #7 Teachers seek opportunities to positively impact teaching quality and student learning. POSSIBLE COURSEWORK: instructional workshop for the use of a particular technology, teaching strategies course

SAMPLE LEARNING GOAL: I will explore the use of whole-school study groups so that new ideas can be shared. OHIO STANDARDS MET: #2 Teachers understand and use instructional strategies to effectively teach concepts. #5 Teachers create learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students. #6Teachers collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators, and the community to support student learning. #7 Teachers seek opportunities to positively impact teaching quality and student learning. POSSIBLE COURSEWORK: instructional workshop for the use of a particular strategy

When writing learning goals please consider… Write goals to include as many of the 7 standards as possible, describing desired knowledge to be gained through professional development and a rationale for gaining that particular knowledge. Goals can be rewritten as often as you choose, to include new areas of professional development you were originally not considering. Goals must reflect district and building CIP. Goals should contain verbs relating to learning; explore, research, investigate, study, become familiar with
