Math Advice Math homework is given nightly. Please make sure it gets done. Practicing math at home is one of the best ways to make sure that that the math concept is learned. We take notes regularly in class. Students should be able to review their notes to help with homework. The book is a great resource! Students can always go back and review concepts when studying for quizzes & tests, or when they need to review for homework.

Math SOL Expectations The SOL test given in May will be 60 questions. They will be distributed as follows: 10 questions on Number and Number Sense 9 questions on Computation and Estimation 12 questions on Measurement & Geometry 19 questions on Probability, Statistics, Patterns, Functions, & Algebra 10 Field Questions

SOL Practice and Review Released 6 th grade Math SOL test from VDOE _Math_RB_2006.pdf _Math_RB_2006.pdf Jefferson Math IQ – Interactive Quizzes

Ending Advice Students will be successful in the 6 th grade if they TRY. They need to stay focused and work hard all year. This means keeping up with their work, both classwork and homework. Study for tests and quizzes. Ask questions when they don’t understand. And give us 100% all year.

Technology Enhanced Questions In both Reading and Math this year students must answer some questions that are interactive… not multiple choice. We will be working with the students as the SOLs get closer for them to practice the types of questions as well as get used to how to answer questions in a new format.

19 Technology Enhanced Items (TEI) 7-8 questions Format of Math Questions: Fill in the blank Drag and drop Hot-spot: Select one or more “spots” to respond to a test item, i.e. select answer option(s), shade region(s), place a point on a grid Creation of graphs Format of Reading Questions Drag and Drop Hot-spot: Select one or more “spots” to respond to a test item
