6 SOCIAL STUDIES Started the year with a focus on U.S. geography.
Focus on U.S. history through the Civil War. We will be beginning a State Report next week. The process will be very similar to what was done on the 4th grade California history reports. The final product will be a PowerPoint presentation and report to the class. We will also do an additional research project near the end of the year. D.C. trip April 11th -17th; 1st EFS meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:00 pm (parents only). 2nd meeting TBD

7 READING Focus is on continued skill development, especially fluency and comprehension Will use short stories, novels, poetry and non-fiction sources; Great Books later in the year Due dates and instructions for book reports are available on the Teacher Page. For book reports or when kids are reading for pleasure, allow them to choose books they'll enjoy; be careful about pushing them into "challenging" material. Read to your kids!
