What is the bible? A collection of ancient writing about God. An all time BEST SELLER! 2 parts: _______ testament aka Hebrew testament - 46 books _______ testament aka Christian testament - 27 books The bible is SCRIPTURE – meaning “sacred writings”

Who wrote the bible? It was written by many different authors, mostly Hebrews, some unknown Moses is credited with the first 5 book of the Bible which are: – Genesis – Exodus – Leviticus – Numbers – Deuteronomy These 5 books make up the Pentateuch or Torah – Jewish scripture, which includes all the Jewish law!

Who wrote the bible? The New Testament is written after Jesus’ death – so it is written in light of the Resurrection (more on this later). Gospels (means “Good News”) were written by: – Matthew – Mark – Luke – John The New Testament also includes: Act, Epistles/Letters, Revelation (John wrote this too)

When was the Bible written? At various times over 1000 years (about 900BC to 100AD) At various places – Palestine, Babylon (in modern Iraq), Egypt, Rome, Corinth (in modern Greece) For different purposes and different audiences Gospels - between 70-90AD

Who chose these writings? The writings were not chosen but acknowledged to be inspired by the Holy Spirit (aka God)!

How did the Bible develop? Oral history: stories told, songs sung, history recounted and memorized. Written history: written stories, historical recordings, instructions and guides Edited history: selected the best of what was written and told ALL 3 types of history occurred to create the bible
