Making an Enhancing employment skills Why IMPACT? n Unique – designed for minority ethnic undergraduates n Links with many high profile and local potential employers n Brand and reputation of the project n Links with societies and other groups n Variety of support offered – workshops, seminars, students support groups, mentors and talks/presentations by employers n Very informal language, style and approach

Making an Enhancing employment skills Before IMPACT! n Difficulties in completing applications/constructing CV and letter n Job rejections n Discouraged, frustrated, and poor self – image n Little awareness of the job market and how to market myself effectively n Desperate need for support and guidance to enable to maximise my potential

Making an Enhancing employment skills After IMPACT!  Able to construct effective CV/letter, fill application forms and excelled at interviews n Greater awareness of the job markets, opportunities and good at self-marketing n Continue to receive a variety of job offers (Champions, Inland Revenue, Customer Services) and invitations to give talks and participate in a variety of events n Increased my network of friends (student support groups) including potential employers n More independent, confident and motivated and able to support my friends with similar problems

Making an Enhancing employment skills Impact of IMPACT! n Very student focused n Style and informal approach and personalised s n Inspire and challenge me to work hard and to be at my best n Invaluable feedback sessions n Involvement in social and cultural events - bridging the cultural, social and professional gaps between students and staff n Able to relate to Impact academically, morally and socially n Links with other universities - created opportunities to meet new friends (common identity for all of us) n The programme is so well structured and staff remain reliable, available and committed (sometimes outside normal working hours)
