How will you create the best environment? What factors do you need to consider?

Definition “Assessment for learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for use by learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are in their learning, where they need to go and how best to get there”. Assessment Reform Group, 2002

How do we use AfL in PE? Share clear WALT/WILF with learners. Use effective questioning. Engage students in their learning. Give immediate feedback. Use self and peer assessment in lessons.

Boys and girls of all ages, abilities and interests make outstanding progress because teaching enthuses, motivates and inspires them to try hard and do their very best. Excellent relationships and extensive praise and feedback promote enjoyable and highly effective learning. Teachers and specialist coaches are organised and well-planned. They use their extensive subject knowledge to show pupils the step-by step stages of learning new skills, and how to apply skills in different activities and situations. They question pupils to check their understanding and provide expert advice on how to attain exceptionally high levels of performance. Expectations of all pupils are consistently high. Pupils are challenged to work their hardest, even when they begin to tire and are encouraged to their own ways of making their performances exceptionally good. The pace of learning is rapid. Time in lessons is maximised to engage all pupils in vigorous, physical activity. Teaching ensures that pupils remain active for sustained periods of time and that their all-round physical development is promoted exceptionally well. A wide range of equipment and resources, including computers and video technology is used regularly and effectively to enable pupils to enhance their learning.
