APICS and Michigan State University in Partnership SCM: Beyond the Horizon Firms and the supply chains they operate are becoming more dynamic and turbulent. In response, firms are seeking to transform their strategies to create and maintain competitive advantages in this new world. Creating a strategic supply chain requires a new approach to working with their supply chains – an approach that is both integrative and agile.

This two-year study will explore how firms are trying to convert their supply chains from being strategically decoupled, price-driven to strategically coupled, value- driven. Focus will be on the business model rather than strategy since this defines the firm’s methods for doing business. APICS and Michigan State University in Partnership SCM: Beyond the Horizon

Key Questions: What makes a supply chain strategic? What specific traits are associated with a strategic supply chain? What is the impact on performance of having a strategic supply chain (relative to a tactical supply chain)? What measures and metrics have been developed that are particularly relevant to strategic supply chains? How do the various supply chain capabilities affect the ability of the firm to achieve its strategic outcomes? What factors either inhibit or facilitate the transformation of a supply chain from being tactical to being strategic? APICS and Michigan State University in Partnership SCM: Beyond the Horizons
