2 What is the SHRM Foundation? Structure:  Nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)  Legally separate, 501(c)(3) organization –Separate Board of Directors & Budget –Not funded by SHRM membership dues

3 What is the SHRM Foundation? Mission Statement: The SHRM Foundation maximizes the impact of the HR profession on organizational decision-making and performance by promoting innovation, education, research and the use of research-based knowledge.

4 What is the SHRM Foundation? The SHRM Foundation advances and supports the human resource profession through: –Research Grants –Scholarships –Educational Products This work is made possible by charitable contributions from individuals, chapters, state councils, companies and others in the HR community.

5 Research Grants  Provides multi-year grants for high-impact, original HR research  $750,000 funded in 2008  $2.3 million funded since 1996  Relevant, actionable insights for HR practitioners SHRM Foundation is leading funder of HR research.

6 Connecting Research to HR Practice “Why does research matter?” Research shows what works, and builds HR’s credibility. Research grants result in: –Publication in journals, magazines and textbooks –Presentations at conferences –Certification exam questions  Ultimately, research advances the knowledge base of the HR profession!

7 Scholarships and Awards  Scholarships for Working Professionals (formerly known as “Regional Scholarship Program”) –$100,000 available ($20,000 per region) –Underwritten by J. J. Keller Foundation –Application deadline is July 15 –Academic and certification scholarships available  Student Scholarships –$50,000 available –Application deadline is October 15 –Academic and certification scholarships available  Dissertation Awards –$20,000 available for promising Ph.D. candidates
