Women with Disability E-development: Minimizing the Gap Presented by: Dr. Atiga Yousif Elmubark Department of Educational Technology, College of Education, Sudan University of Science and Technology

Introduction Women with disability face discrimination on different layers. They suffer from being: Isolated. Under-educated. Unemployed. Accordingly they face: Ignorance. Poverty. the thing which may lead to Low self-steam. Frustration.

The ICTs Information and communications technology (ICT): is a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to: o Communicate, o Access, o Create, o Distribute, o Store, and manage information. These technologies include: o Computers and Internet. o Telephone lines and wireless signals. o Broadcasting technologies (radio and TV).

ICTs can be used to help disabled women in: Having access to education. Increasing their access to information. Breaking the social isolation i.e. make their voice heard. Getting respectful jobs, thus, leading: Prosperous Independent lives. The ICTs

ICT can be used for teaching the disabled women how don’t have access to education to provide them with:  Literacy: is not only about reading and writing. it also includes: comprehension and the joy of being a literate person in a knowledgeable society. Role of ICT in Promoting Literacy

 Numberacy: is about reasoning and problem solving, just as being good with numbers and figures.  Well-being of students: This step is about feeling secure. preparing qualified citizens. Learning to know, to do, to be and to live together by all achievable means (Dhanarajan, 2002). sometimes it is called: emotional intelligence, citizenship, character education,

A better World to live in decreasing the gap of illiteracy; is crucial because it has so many social consequences. : Education Better Jobs Money Social status Better human being Self esteem Better Society Awareness

Nevertheless, access to ICTs and usage of ICTs entails: Affordability, Accessibility, Literacy. These factors are not available on an equal basis to men and women in developing countries. The digital divide is wider for women with disability.

Moreover, The perception of women with disability being less capable of operating computers perpetuates disadvantages. This perception participated in making women reluctant to make start with new technologies. There is also a perception amongst disabled women that ICT is not relevant to them (Media Access Australia, 2012).

The Inclusive Learning Lab (i2Lab) is a UNESCO led approach. it can be used as a road map for utilizing ICT to provide: Self-education, Self-accommodation, Independence.

It aimed at providing a learning space. where persons with disabilities can access learning by exploiting assistive technologies. and inclusive ICTs that are available in the lab for all other persons. The Inclusive Learning Lab (i2Lab)

It is based on four zones:  Development.  Digital accessibility.  Dialogue and creative expression.  Diversity. The Inclusive Learning Lab (i2Lab)

Development Providing a multidisciplinary approach to: Formal and informal educational settings, Libraries, Community and youth centers. and other social-public places with ICTs available to:  Process, transmit and present information,  Focusing on learning about different subject matters.

Digital accessibility It focuses on learning about and applying the principles of producing: Accessible products, Services and content for persons with disabilities.

Dialogue and creative expression provides an area where ICTs are used to foster: Freedom of expression. Access to information through:  Reading,  Writing,  Communication  and interactivity with others.

Diversity It is about developing an understanding of issues of: Social acceptance, Tolerance Global cooperation, Through:  Learning about current affairs,  Cultural and social activities, through various media formats.

Development Preparing quality curricula Utilizing ICT i.e. Integration. Digital accessibility  Preparing smart class with accessible content, resources and services. The application of (4Ds) zones What was planned The (4Ds) zones

Its ApplicationThe (4Ds) zones Dialogue and creative expression Make the learners computer literate. enable them to utilize the capabilities of the computer and the Internet. Diversity Social acceptance by making them accept themselves first and asserting themselves through the utilizations of ICTs.

(i2Lab) zones can be the answer for many of disAbled women problems: Conclusion

Under education Unemployment Low self-steam Low self-steam Povery Povery Frustration Ignorant women, who have No Future Development Diversity Digital accessibility Bright Future Able to compete in the labour market. Independent, confident and more productive citizens
