Ho Chui Chui Assessment Final Test (40%) - 2 hours Part A: Reading Comprehension (20%) - 2 reading passages ~ 600 words) Part B: Writing (20%) - 1 essay based on the 2 reading passages - ~ 350 words - in-text citations (APA style) (Students are allowed to bring an English-English dictionary into the room.)

Common Problems Students should: 1. evaluate their sources - author - date of publication/posting - publisher 2. avoid plagiarism a) paraphrase properly b) use quote marks for quotations c) cite all sources

3. avoid bald quotations e.g. “ The gift of an organ is a gift of life” (Lum, 2003, p.6). - quotations should be introduced e.g. According to an eminent doctor, “A gift of an organ is a gift of life” (Lum, 2003,p.6).

4. ensure in-text citations and the entries in the reference page match 5. highlight the phrases/sentences in the original articles which have been paraphrased, summarised or quoted 6. have a backup copy of their paper 7. submit their work on time 8. consult their lecturer at least 5 times for each term paper or lose 5 marks from the term paper.
