Chapter 2 Study Guide Chapter Test Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Section 1 Know the difference between element, atom, and compound. Know the difference between organic and inorganic. Know the role of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. Understand why water is essential in living things.

Section 2 Be able to explain diffusion. Be able to discuss the role of the cell membrane. Be able to explain osmosis. Know the difference between active and passive transport.

Section 3 Be able to describe photosyntesis as a 2-stage process. Be able to explain how plants make their own food. Know the photosynthesis equation.

Section 4 Be able to define and explain respiration. Be able to explain the 2 stages of respiration. Know the equation for respiration. Be able to compare and contrast photosynthesis and respiration. Be able to describe the different types of fermentation and know where they occur.

Section 5 Be able to define the cell cycle. Be able to name and describe each phase of the cell cycle. Be able to identify each phase of the cell cycle. Be able to explain DNA replication.

Test Composition 10 multiple choice questions (1 point each). 5 fill in the blanks (1 point each). 3 questions related to a diagram (2 points each). 4 essay questions (2 points each)
