Event Overview Date: March 6, 2010 Location: Georgia Aquarium Event theme: Event name: Starry Night Tagline: Helping Georgia’s foster youth reach for the stars Youth Theme: Striving to Achieve Real Success Messaging focus: Event will raise money to assist GA foster youth that are aging out of care with transitioning into adult life Scholarships Lifeline Guardian Scholars – mentoring college students Summer housing for college students Financial Literacy Training Life Coaches – mentoring high school students

Event Overview cont. Partnership with DHS and Casey Family Programs on “Raise Me Up” campaign Data How many youth age 18 or older are prepared to be an independent adult with no support system? Did you know: Only 50% of youth in foster care will graduate from high school. Only 11% of youth graduating from high school will attend college, and only 3% of these youth will graduate from college. Many foster youth in college are homeless during college breaks. 270,000 prisoners were once in foster care. 25% of foster youth become homeless upon aging out of the foster care system. Foster youth are twice as likely to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder than American soldiers in the first Gulf War. There are approximately 12,000 children in the Georgia foster care system.
