Divided People: Israel- northern kingdom Vocabulary Idolatry: worship a thing instead of God.

Solomon ruled wisely for years, but then began to break the covenant with God. God told him that the kingdom would not continue if the covenant was not obeyed. Solomon died in 922 BC and his son Rehoboam became king. Rehoboam imposed more taxes and harsh laws. Northern tribes refused to accept Rehoboam as king and broke away and formed their own kingdom.

Two Jewish kingdoms Israel Judah 10 northern tribes Jeroboam was king Encouraged idolatry and appointed false priests Samaria became capital Ahab and Jezebel were evil rulers and did not accept God. 2 southern tribes Rehoboam was king Jerusalem was capital with Temple
