2 Chapter 15 ~ lesson 3 Concept: How did God’s people forget the covenant? Question: What are the “ten lost tribes of Israel”? The Down Fall of Israel (pg 176) After Jeroboam II’s death, Israel’s power and prosperity vanished. The Assyrians were a powerful people threatening Israel. The King of Assyria attacked and eventually took control of all of Israel. They sent 27,000 Israelites away who were never seen from again. (The 10 Lost Tribes.) The Northern Kingdom became a part of the Assyrian empire.

3 Chapter 15 ~ lesson 3 Other prophets bring God’s Message to Israel
Elijah and Elisha tried to help the people in the northern kingdom turn back to God. Amos, a northern prophet, told the people they were heartless, greedy and dishonest. Amos warned the people to act justly. Hosea, a northern prophet, was married to Gomer. She was unfaithful to him like the people were unfaithful to God. He called the Israelites to show their love for God by the way they lived (acted).

4 Chapter 15 ~ lesson 3 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was inspired by the prophet Amos’ call for social justice. Dr. King quoted Amos in his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Chapter Review: Write 2 sentences about the following in your iPad: Rehoboam, Jeroboam, Elijah, Elisha, Amos, Hosea, Ahab, Jezebel, Jeroboam II
