What Are Biomes?.
Biomes  Tropical Rainforest  Deciduous Rainforest  Temperate Rainforest  Desert  Grasslands  Tundra  Taiga  Savanna  Freshwater  Marine  Estuary.
Why don’t polar bears live in the desert? Polar bears don’t live in the desert because they are adapted to very cold environments.

Earth’s Biomes. Biome is a group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms. By knowing this information… We are going to complete a Think:Pair:Share.
What is a biome?  A biome is a large geographical region characterized by distinctive types of plants and animals and a specific climate  Sometimes.
The biosphere is divided into major areas called biomes.
BIOMES. What is a biome?  A group of ecosystems with similar climate and organisms.  Temperature and rainfall determine the plants that will grow. 
Essential Questions  What are the six major biomes found on Earth?  What factors determine the type of biome found in an area?

A group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms. Biomes A group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms.

Tropical Rain Forest 125-600 cm of rain a year (a lot) 20-34 degrees Celsius (68-93)F

Tropical Rain Forest Most abundant life on Earth. Plants: Kapok tree, Durian Animals: monkey, cobra, insects, insects, and more insects

Temperate Rain Forest Lots of rain too: 300 cm a year Temperature is more moderaterarely above 27 Celsius

Temperate Rain Forest Plants: redwood tree, cedar tree, douglas fir Animals: deer, squirrel, otter, elk, bird, etc

Desert Very little rain: less than 25 cm a year Temperature varieshot in the day, cold at night

Desert Plants: Joshua Tree, low lying shrubs, saguro cactus Animals: gila monster, sidewinder, other animals adapted to dry

Grasslands Rainfall: 25-75 cm per year Savannas are grasslands near the equator and they can get as much as 125 cm a year Temperature: very hot seasons and then cooler seasons

Grasslands Plant: grass mostly Animals: lions, antelope, wildebeest, rhino

Deciduous Forest Average Rainfall: at least 50 cm per year Temperature: varies from season to season but is moderate This is what we live in.

Deciduous Forest Trees with leaves that fall off each year Birds, bears, rabbits, etc.

Boreal Forest Rainfall30-80 cm Temperature -54 to 21 Celcius

Boreal Forest Plants: coniferous trees such as spruce and pine Animals: large herbivores and carnivores such as elk, wolves, deer, bears

Tundra Rainfallalmost no precipitation Temperature -56 Celsius or -70 Farenheit Ground has a frozen layer of permafrost

Tundra Plants: low lying plants such as arctic moss Animals: Caribou, wolves, fox, rabbit
