The Final Solution By: Daniel Casey Picture: "FINAL SOLUTION": OVERVIEW — PHOTOGRAPH #1

What was The Final Solution? The “Final Solution” was the plan to kill and wipe out any and all Jews. This was first started in 1941 and came to an end in The “Final Solution” was a codename for the mass-slaughter, or genocide, of The Jewish people. The plan was often called by Hitler “The Final Solution to the Jewish question.” Adolf Hitler Picture: “Hitler in 1937”

How it Started It started when the Nazi’s first rose to power in 1933 Persecution and segregation of the Jews happened in stages. With government control, State sponsored racism produced: – Anti-Jewish legislation – Economic boycotts – Increased violence Hitler’s Rise to power. Picture: “An NSDAP meeting in December 1930, with Hitler in the centre”

How it Progressed The 1939 invasion of Poland began WWII and the persecution of Jews escalated. Ghettos, or enclosed areas, were established in Poland. Polish and Western European Jews were deported to these ghettos and detained. In July 1941 following the invasion of the Soviet Union, preparations began for “A complete solution to the Jewish question”. An entrance to a Ghetto. Picture: “Entrance to the Ghetto at Lodz”

How it Progressed In the fall of 1941 Heinrich Himmler began a plan to systematically murder Jews in three major killing centers: – Belzec – Sobibor – Treblinka In 1942, Auschwitz-Birkenau was designated as a killing facility where more than 1 million Jews were murdered.

What Happened? German SS troops and police murdered nearly 2.7 million Jews with poison gas or shootings. It is estimated that 6 million Jewish men women and children were killed during the Holocaust. This represented 2/3 of the Jews living in Europe at this time. Even though many had died some lucky few made it through the harsh conditions.

Pictures (1) Above is a picture of the main entrance to one of many Concentration Camps this one being Auschwitz-Birkenau, located in Poland. This was an “extermination camp”. This camp was a very large and open camp but very secure. Picture: “Final Solution”: Overview PHOTOGRAPH #2

Pictures (2) This picture is of the large amount of confiscated valuable items from prisoners after the camp was liberated by American forces. The camp was Buchenwald, Germany, after April The valuables include, gold, earrings, jewelry, money, or anything of value. “Final Solution”: OVERVIEW PHOTOGRAPH #7

Pictures (3) This picture above is Zyklon B pellets found at yet another camp liberation. This time of the Majdanek camp, after July, Zyklon B is a cyanide-based pesticide, infamous for its excessive use by the Nazi’s during the Holocaust. It would cause instant death once inhaled without a gasmask. “Final Solution”: OVERVIEW PHOTOGRAPH #9

How did it end? It ended when The allies and Russia stormed Germany ending the War and destroying The Third Reich. Though many camps on the road to Germany were liberated. All camps were cleaned out and all surviving prisoners set free. Thus destroying the once great plan, “The Final Solution”. Picture: “Infamous Nazi Sign at Auschwitz Stolen”
