EMOBILITY WORKS Integration of e-mobility in European municipalities and businesses IEE/13/706/S12.657111 March 2014 – August 2016

Project Outline Duration: March 2014 – August 2016 Funding: Co-funded by IEE Consortium: 12 partners from 9 countries http://emobilityworks.com/

Participating countries & municipalities

Participating countries & municipalities Countries: FI, EE, ES, DE, AT, EL, IT, RO Municipalities: Chosen by project partners in participating countries Most of them were chosen during the proposal phase (early establishment of committment of the locally involved people) Very different starting situations: Some already have e-vehicles (e.g. Schladming in Austria) Others have never dealt with this issue before (e.g. most Greek municipalities). For some municipalities the project is complementary to other activities, such as SUMP or SEAP development

Main objectives Increase in e-mobility in 27 municipalities and in more than 100 businesses across Europe E-mobility action plan for each participating municipality Electricity from renewable energy sources Increased knowledge / awareness regarding e-mobility in municipalities, businesses and among the general public

Why e-mobility? EMOBILITY WORKS! Almost 100 % of road transportation is based on fossil fuels. More than 50 % of all routes are shorter than 5 km The average daily route is about 28 km EMOBILITY WORKS! Source: www.shutterstock.com Source: Graz Energy Agency Source: www.umweltbundesamt.at

E-mobility action plans Development process: Preparation and project alignment: Local action team wants to enforce e-mobility in the municipality Status quo analysis and potential assessment Set-up of time and workplan

E-mobility action plans Development process: Vision and goals: Develop a common vision Define priorities Develop SMART – goals

E-mobility action plans Development process: Measures: Develop measures Define responsibilities and ressources Finalize the e-action plan Adoption by city council Official presentation

E-mobility action plans Development process: Implementation and evaluation: Implement measures Evaluation and lessons learned Re-define if necessary

E-mobility action plans Development process: Strategic integration! Cooperation with local businesses

E-mobility action plans Aspects to be considered: Local action team: Choose carefully, which stakeholders to integrate (facility managers, tourism, etc.) Development of a clear vision and goals Precise planning of responsibilities to ensure implementation of measures Cooperation with important economic sectors (e.g. tourism, trading, etc.) – integration into local measures Provide arguments for e-mobility beyond finances (image, fore-runner, local air quality, etc.) Never underestimate local politics, e.g. structural reform of municipalities in Austria or local elections in Slovenia  can lead to delay of project activities
