To participate in a WebYeshiva.org class, you will need: A computer and headphones. Its important you have a high quality mic That has noise cancellation. Please speak to the office if you need one. A high speed internet connection (DSL, ADSL, Cable, Fiber Optics). The minimal upload speed needed is mb/s (sometimes written as 250 kb/s). Ideal spead is at least.500 mb/s (500 kb/s). You can check your speed with your provider, or you can do your own speed check at Before logging on to an online class at WebYeshiva.org, exit any games and other non-essential programs, including instant messaging, instant notifications, etc. It is especially important to log off Skype before logging in to a class, as the Skype has control of your webcam and VoIP, and can interfere with WebEx (the online classroom provider). Recommended browsers: Explorer or Firefox for Windows, Safari for Mac. Basic Requirements for the System

First, please register for WebYeshiva which is a very quick process. Go to and click on Register Now. The WebYeshiva staff will assign you teacher’s rights and register you for your courseswww.webyeshiva.org Edit Profile

Logging in Log in Edit Profile

Getting Started… Setting Up Your Profile In the next slide you will see the profile page where your personal information including name, time settings and password can be seen and updated.

Getting Started… Setting Up Your Profile

After logging in you will see a box enabling you to directly enter the web conference class (we will discuss this later) You will see your weekly calendar, where you can enter the class by clicking on the course in the calendar On the bottom of the page is the list of your courses. You can click there as well to enter a course

Building an Interactive Environment In the next slide we will review the class page. Every shiur (course) has its own home page. Teachers use this page to share sources and other material with students, post messages, as well as other forms of communications. Teachers update their course pages regularly. The archives are accessed from this page as well.

The Class Page Archives Class Materials Class Name Time of the upcoming class And login button to the class Shiur admin-see next page

Cont. from previous page- how to load materials. On the bottom of the course page click on “edit” for the class you wish to add material

Here you write the description of what this class is about Click here to load the course material Do not forget to click the “update class” Else you just wasted time….

WebYeshiva Student/Teacher Communication WebYeshiva members are encouraged to share views and opinions with the on-line community. Students and teachers communicate regularly through and other on-line mediums, creating a truly personal experience.

Welcome to the WebEx Web Conference Classroom- Getting Started To enter the class, click “login as teacher”. Please note that it is a 2 step process. It will first log you in, and open a window telling you that you logged in successfully. It will then ask you to close the window. Then click the “login” button again (which will now read “start WebEx class”- and the class will start A teacher can enter the class at any time. Students can enter a class 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.If they try to enter before 15 minutes, they will get an error.

First turn on the VoIP either by going to the Quick start Menu and clicking on Voice conference or…….see next page

Or go to Audio>Integrated Voice>start conference Note: When you turn on the Voip, all students will be prompted to turn on their VoIP

Setting Audio & Microphone Options This should only need to be done the first time you enter a WebYeshiva session, unless you change computers, add/remove hardware or otherwise change your computer setup. The first time you enter a class, log in to WebYeshiva and enter your session as early as possible to give yourself time to set it up properly. On the upcoming pages you will see the instructions how to set up the VoIP and webcam.

The first time you use Webex VoIP, you will also be automatically prompted to configure the Audio setup wizard right after joining the VoIP session as seen in the last slide. This allows you to setup the speakers and microphone. Make sure to test the speaker and mic, and if the test doesn’t work, then try changing the speaker or mic in the drop-down box

Please note that if after turning on the VoIP you have a VoIP issue and would like to redo the settings, you have to go through two steps. You cannot work on the settings while the VoIP is on, so the option for “Computer Setup for Audio” will be grayed out. Therefore you must first click on: Audio> Integrated Voice> End Conference. Only after you leave the VoIP conference will you be able to click on Audio>Setup for Audio. Complete your setup and then you can rejoin the audio by going to Audio>Integrated Voice>Start Conference.

Student Audio Control Its important to have the student’s mic muted during the class so that it doesn’t cause interference. To mute or un-mute, click the icon of the microphone. To mute all students on one shot, right click on the name of any student on the list and you will have a box open with the option of “mute all” BTW, you can easily tell from which student the sound is coming from, as there will be an image of vibes coming the mic icon. We recommend asking the students to mute themselves, and only unmute if they wish to talk. When a student wants to talk, they many times click the raise hand button (which only students have) The teacher will see an icon of a hand next to the student’s name. Please look out for it The student may also choose to send their request via chat. Look out for the chats as well.

Webcam Setup To turn your webcam on or off, click the icon of the webcam Once your picture is on, you can choose to hide it and unhide if for yourself by clicking on the small arrow. Hiding your picture will enable you to free up more of your screen, which is important if you wish to see also the chats and the student list but will still enable the students to see you) You can choose who will be shown on the main picture by clicking on the name on the webcam screen You can see the participants in picture form instead of a list, by clicking on the list button and choosing thumbnails. On the next page you can see what it would look like.

Audio and Webcam Setup You can go back to list form by clicking on it again and choosing “list”.

Loading documents. Go to share>file. And yes, you can share video too. you can also choose to share your desktop

Click on the highlighter to highlight words How to use the annotating tools Click on the pointer and then put the cursor anywhere on the screen and click again. Keep pointing to where you are teaching Click on the eraser and when you click on any annotation it will erase it, or on the drop down arrow you can erase all Choose the color of your annotation. We recommend a light color for highlighting and a dark one for arrows and boxes

Click on the line/arrow to make lines or connecting arrows How to use the annotating tools Click on the “T” (text) button to be able to write words on the screen Click on the box to box off words

Rotating page: click on view>sync rotate page

resize the text on the screen

Syncing for all viewers: If you would like the resizing to apply to all viewers, then you must click on view>sync display for all

please note that if you load a document with a number of pages, to move between pages, click on the arrows, and there’s no need to sync. Also, if you scroll down, to enable viewers to scroll down with you, you must click on view>sync display for all

Inside the WebEx Classroom- The Class All source material is clearly displayed and is available for students to download for later use. All classes are recorded and are available as archives through the WebYeshiva.org website. The next slide will explain how to access the archives.

Conversing with the students Students can raise their hands to request to talk or unmute themselves to ask a question or they can chat to the teacher. Please look out for raised hands or chats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To make your chat box bigger, enabling you to see more chats at a time put you cursor on the line and drag up or down

Conversing with the students using the Chat feature You can send the chat to the entire class by choosing send to “Everyone”. You can also choose to send a private chat to any participant by choosing their name from the drop down menu (Be careful not to send a private chat to everyone, as it may cause discomfort.) Also, pay attention if the chat was sent to you privately, as it may mean that they do not want the class to know what they wrote, so do not read it aloud in their name Everyone_

Recordings. To record the session (1) click on ”record” which will open the recording panel (2). (2)Click on the red button to start the recording which will open a window. (3)Click on “do not record a teleconference” and then on “start recording” 1 3 2

Accessing Archives Archives are usually available within 24 hours of the class. To view the archives, you must first download the WebEx player. This needs to be done only once. Many classes have the option of downloading the shiur in WebEx format or in mp4 format.

Accessing WebYeshiva Archives The archive file opens easily with the WebEx Recording Player. View all of the sources, communications, and videos that took place during the actual class.
