Presentation transcript:

Career Center Allied Health Sciences II Orientation

 This session is designed to prepare both parents/students with the necessary information needed for students to be ready to participate in clinical rotations in the spring.

 To have every student prepared and excited about their clinical experience.  To offer our students the best experience possible.  To do this: Planning and Organization on everyone’s part is essential.

 Clinical rotations begin the last week in January.  Clinical rotations end in late April/(early)May.

 The following are requirements in order for students to participate in the clinical experience. 1. Allied Health Standards (signed) 2. Student Contract (signed) 3. CPR – (unexpired card) 4. Updated Immunizations 5. Approved Uniforms (Heidi’s on Stratford Rd) 6. Proof of Medical Insurance 7. Social Security Card/Driver’s License 8. Transportation to and from clinical site. 9. Background screening and drug testing.

A written agreement between student/parent/teacher/principal regarding requirements, attendance, and professional demeanor during the clinical rotation.  Please refer to handout.

 CPR Certification – Students may be certified through American Red Cross or American Heart Association.  Certification cannot expire while student is participating in clinical rotation.  Two (2) Saturday classes will be offered at Career Center in October and November.  Average cost of CPR class: $55 - $100.

◦ New policies and procedures in our participating host facilities have given us added immunization requirements for students and instructors. ◦ The following immunizations are required, with proof of such immunizations, before a student may start the clinical rotation:  Hepatitis B Series (most students received the series in sixth grade. If no series given, students may provide a declination form or titer)  Current tetanus vaccine (within past 5 years)  H1N1 vaccine  Seasonal flu vaccine  Two tuberculin skin tests (the second to be within 60 days of the first)  DPT  Proof of Chicken Pox (note from parent) or Varicella vaccine.

 Our Host Facilities are now requiring that anyone whom provides direct patient care have a background check and drug screening.  WSFCS will provide these services at a cost to the student/parent.  Students must have a clear drug screen and background check to participate in the clinical rotation.

 Refer to handout.  Uniform color this year is surgical green.  Males and females will wear green tops and pants as well as surgical green lab jackets.  Shoes must be white leather or leather like. (no cloth shoes)  Dates set aside for ordering uniforms from Heidi’s on Stratford Rd. is October 18 – 30.  Students receive a 25% discount when they order and pay for uniforms during these dates.  Students must also have a watch with second hand.

 Refer to handout  Students/Parents will need to sign form stating what their wishes are regarding students transportation to and from clinicals.  Career Center will NOT provide transportation to clinical sites.  Students will NOT be allowed to transport other students unless parents have signed the form stating so.  Instructors cannot transport students.
