1 Message from the Program Director
November 2011 APTR Student Newsletter Message from the Program Director Greetings Advanced Radiography Students! November is a great month to be thankful for all we have, including our freedom. This edition is dedicated to our Veterans, especially our APTR Veteran Students!! I am truly thankful for the sacrifices that our military and their families have made. So, as we sit around the table for Thanksgiving with our families, please take the time to reflect on how blessed we are. Go Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard! Our Red, White, and Blue! Chalonda Jones-Thomas, M.A.Ed., R.T. (R) (MR)(CT)(ARRT) Advanced Placement Track Radiography Online Program Director (520) PMI Faculty Spotlight Carol Oberwager, M.S.H.S., R.T. (ARRT) United States Army & Pima Medical Institute As a soldier in the Army, being a radiological technologist is both an honor and a privilege. There are so many positives that go with being both a Soldier and an RT. Not only do I have the honor of serving our great country, but I leave the military with a skill that can be used for life whether I serve six years or twenty. Under the old system, all the military Radiological Specialist Programs were separate across the Armed Forces and now it is programs were separate across the Armed Forces and now it is The Online Student Center has very helpful information about financial aid for military service members! one program that serves the Air Force, Army, and Navy located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. I truly believe that this will lead to more fellow service members becoming ARRT certified radiographer technologists. While we do not earn a degree in the military program, we do earn registry eligibility status. I’m interested! This is where Pima Medical Institute can be of great service because PMI affords the opportunity for service members to further their careers by providing degrees to the uniformed forces. With this degree, those who wish to become ARRT certified radiographers can become eligible. It is so important that all individuals in our field focus on earning their ARRT. It shows that we are professionals that care about what we do and about providing the best to our patients. Passing the ARRT and having a degree can also open so many doors for all individuals. It provides better job opportunities, shows that an individual is dedicated to a skill that they believe in, opens the doors to modality training, the list goes on. No matter what today may bring or what your plans for tomorrow are, always strive to stay on top in your field. Whether you are a military service member or a civilian working towards your ARRT certification, I salute you and wish you all the best!
