©SHRM 2010 FAQs Q: As a member of SHRM, aren’t I automatically a member of a local chapter? A: No. Membership in SHRM is separate and apart from membership in a local chapter. Each chapter has its own membership application process and dues structure. While there are 575+ locally affiliated SHRM chapters, they are autonomous entities in their operations and membership requirements. To become a member of a local chapter, you will need to apply for membership with the chapter. 27

©SHRM 2010 FAQs Q: As a member of my local chapter, aren’t I automatically a member of SHRM? A: No. To join SHRM, please go to and click the Join/Renew button at the top of page. 28

©SHRM 2010 FAQs Q: When I join a local chapter, should I notify SHRM? A: Yes. Once you become a member of your local chapter, please the SHRM Member Relations Team at or call us at (800) 283- SHRM to update your member record.
