The Importance of Networking Develop contacts ◦ In all types of business and industries Develop professional references ◦ For employment, loans, or renting an apartment or house Create lasting relationships ◦ Professionally ◦ In related areas in your career

Power of Networking “Its not what you know but who you know” To get ahead with your career, to get better raise or new employment Enhance you to lead and influence other people Depends on how strong your relationship Long time colleagues Close friends Others that you have developed mutual trust and respect

How to Get Started Begins with casual conversation ◦ People you meet in your normal day Conferences Community Organizations/Join Groups Mosques/Masjid Community Events Help Others

Make Good First Impression Introduce yourself professionally and establish rapport ◦ Business Cards Create a connection between the two of you Wrap up the conversation with a promise to keep in touch Rule # 1 of Networking is to stay in touch !!!!!

Networking Etiquette Introduce yourself Always carry business cards Be ready to shake someone's hand ◦ Be respectful of other religion Maintain contact with people when things are good - don't wait until you need them Pay attention to grooming and dress - you never know where or when you will meet someone Treat all people with respect Networking is an ongoing process - not an event. Touch base frequently with thank-you cards, follow-up phone calls or s Treat your network connections as respected friends Share positive experiences with others, and work your hardest to be a good reference. Networking is better when you connect by shared laughter and fun
