What areas did you score higher on with the Holland Interest Profiles? R = Realistic I = Investigative A = Artistic S = Social E = Enterprising C = Conventional 4. What personal traits are important for career success as an: Entertainment event promoter? Sports team manager? Public parks director? 6 Job Application Activity Complete a hard copy for prospective job Get a blank job application from your teacher Answer the following on the back of the job application: 1. What is the purpose of a job application? 2. Why should an application be complete, accurate, and free of errors? 3. What can job application forms tell an employer about a job candidate? 4. How is filling out an electronic application different than the traditional paper application? 50 point Assignment – DUE in person on May 26/27

Resume Identify a job for which to develop resume – Or write a generic resume that can easily be adapted to a specific job Identify all keywords and requirements for that job – apply them in the resume Use standard, acceptable resume format Sell yourself on paper! – This is the first impression the employer has of you!

Cover Letter Should concisely and enthusiastically request opportunity for an interview Single page letter Mention the job (or kind of job) you're applying for (or looking for) Match your skills and experiences with the skills and experiences required by the job Encourage the reader to read your resume Finish with a call to action (e.g., requesting an interview or asking to meet

Job Interview Dress Professionally Wear professional attire Maintain eye contact show that you are interested and want the job Be positive avoid negative comments about past employers Listen and adapt to style of the interviewer answer questions completely Relate your answers to the job, company, and interviewer Encourage interviewer to share information about company demonstrate your interest Engage the interviewer! preparing answers to anticipated questions ahead of time Arrive on time Arrive alone Introduce yourself speak clearly Don’t consume or carry food/drink/gum Role play and prepare for questions study “most asked questions” and plan out responses Remember that the interview is a “two-way” conversation Be detailed in responses but don’t drag out responses

Job Interview Follow-up Process Send a timely, professionally written thank-you letter – including any information you may have forgotten to mention that will help qualify you for the position Make phone contact within 2 weeks Complete a self-evaluation of your performance in the interview Make it personal Keep concise Use it to “fix” any interview mistakes
