Develop/Revise RNS  Relate to active and completed research  Identify potential RNS co-sponsors  Use guidance  How to Write an Effective Research Statement - written and webinar guidance

Develop/Revise RNS  Use format requirements of potential funding programs to develop RNS  Collaborate with co-sponsoring TRB committees on RNS development/revision  Vet RNS with TRB committees sponsoring RNS  Enter RNS into/Revise RNS in RNS database

 Funding Guidebook  Know funding program process  Submit RNS to funding program(s)

NCHRP Projects Example:  Program Focus: Highways, including intermodal & multimodal  State funded program; state DOTs, AASHTO committees, & FHWA can submit research ideas.  Research ideas are due September 15 th of each year.  Research ideas are reviewed by NCHRP staff, FHWA, AASHTO committees, and possibly other groups.

NCHRP Projects Example:  Late Dec./Early Jan. research ideas and reviews are sent for rating (due mid-Feb.) to:  AASHTO Standing Committee on Research (SCOR)  AASHTO Research Advisory Committee (RAC)  Members of both of these groups can be found at research.transportation.org.  AASHTO SCOR makes project funding recommendation (March) to the AASHTO Board of Directors (BOD).

NCHRP Projects Example:  Each projects requires a 2/3 BOD approval (late spring/ early summer)  Scope of work/RFP development  Proposal development & approval  Conduct of research (RIP)  Completed research (TRID, NTIS, NTL, WorldCat)

 Share/Disseminate results  TRB committees  AASHTO committees  Communities of Practice/Interest (FHWA, Research Clusters)  Meetings  Marketing efforts  Other venues
