2 Projects Submitted to FY 2018 NCHRP
Benefits and Best Practices in Implementing Decision Support Systems for Real-time Transportation Management Business Intelligence for Transportation System Management and Operations and Agency Decision Making STSMO submitted two research problem statements in October to the FY 2018 NCHRP Problem Statement cycle. In March, SCOR will decide which potential problem statements will become research projects.

3 FY 2017 NCHRP 20-7 Projects Selected
Transportation System Management and Operations Workforce Development-Position Descriptions and KSAs ITS Communications Integration Needs for Legacy and Emerging Programs Including CV and AV Submitted by AASHTO Special Committee on Wireless Communications Technology (SCOWCT) In June of this year, the NOCOE hosted a summit on workforce development. Four of the eight recommendations from the summit were incorporated into a NCHRP 20-7 proposal (Transportation System Management and Operations Workforce Development-Position Descriptions and KSAs) for approval at this year’s AASHTO Annual Meeting. The project was approved and will address the following action items from the summit: Conduct an updated systematic exploration of knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) needs vs. training materials gaps for TSMO entity-related functions and positions Develop a repository of existing position descriptions (PD) for similar positions/functions, and create model position descriptions Document current best recruitment practice in public and private entities, including targeting of non-traditional disciplines and recruitment sources, and the use of recruitment “sweeteners” Document current best practices in mentoring, succession planning, cross training, special assignments and individual career planning for public and private entities

4 Changes to STSMO Research in 2017
Research will be integrated into other technical working groups Research will cease to be a standalone group, instead being part of the discussion for Systems Operations Strategies, Performance Measures, Traffic Incident Management, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Galen McGill (Oregon) and Scott Marler (Iowa) will continue to coordinate STSMO research activities
