Who are we? SAUSD is the 7th largest school district in the State of California and the largest in Orange County. Approximately 60% of SAUSD students are English Learners. 80% of SAUSD students participate in free or reduced-price lunch programs.

Who are we? Number of schools 63 total Elementary, Intermediate, and High Schools Enrollment 54,596Kindergarten thru 12th grade Number of Employees ( 2 nd largest employer in the City of Santa Ana) 2,790 Certificated Staff 1,849 Classified Staff (not including hourly) 127 Certificated Administrators

4 Joint Use Agreements A way for school districts to open their facilities to community use A written agreement between a school district and one or more public or private (non-profit) entities Allows school districts to share with another agency the cost and risks associated with opening school property for after-hours use

5 Joint Use Agreements Can be used for various types of facilities Can result in access ranging from informal use to organized after-school and weekend athletic activities for adults and youth Programming requires ongoing coordination, communication and cooperation

7 Godinez Fundamental High School June 3, 2002 a Joint Use Agreement was established Santa Ana acquired Centennial Park from the US Government Santa Ana Unified sought the City’s agreement to convey acres to the District

9 Godinez Fundamental High School The acres of Centennial Park are for the use as a site for a performing arts center and athletic fields Two purposes for the joint use agreement: –1) To support Godinez Fundamental High School –2) To maximize the beneficial use of the land and facilities for the entire community

10 Godinez Fundamental High School Santa Ana Unified School District time: –Regular School Hours, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. –This is when the District schedules use of the facilities Santa Ana time: –Those days and hours outside of the Regular School Hours –This is when the City schedules use of the facilities

12 Willard Intermediate School November 17, 2008 a Joint Use Agreement was established Santa Ana wrote a winning application for a Proposition 84 grant The Joint Use Agreement covers the use of the tennis court, the parking lot and the field.

13 Willard Intermediate School Willard is also undergoing a modernization and new building project With the Prop 84 grant the field will be upgraded to an artificial turf field with a running track The priority for scheduled usage will give priority to youth sports

15 Garfield Elementary School A new two-story building is being added for Joint Use by the City and the School District The first floor will be used by Garfield Elementary as a multi-purpose room The second floor will have a separate public access and will be programmed by the City as a Community Center
