Presentation transcript:

Studies  Most, but not all here tonight will be taking AS Levels  Harder than GCSEs  Independent study very important  Planning & Time Management  This year important for overall grade - Universities make their decisions based on this year’s grades

Personal Tutor  I am the person in College with overview  Oversee Academic progress and offer Support  Regular point of contact for your son/daughter  Tutor has role of “critical friend”

My Role  Advise – studies, courses, applications, etc  Encourage – settling in, taking up opportunities  Warn – if not meeting College expectations  Support – over any problems  Signpost – services in and out of College  Communicate – student, parents, teachers, Senior Tutor, etc

When we contact  Attendance - College will call or text  Absence MUST be followed up by parental note or it is unauthorised  Subject Reviews (like reports) twice a year (November and March)  Action Plans –Support and Referral System (SRS) and all action plans are sent home – Green, Amber, Red system  I will call or if there is a significant problem

When you contact  I am your first port of call  Best time/method to contact me  Specific subject questions to teacher or Head of Department  Unless special reasons, always best to agree with your son/daughter before contacting me  Response times I can offer

One of our greatest challenges is the bridge between school and adult life. Often parents think we’re not enough like a school, whilst many students think we’re not enough like University or work! As Personal Tutors, we’re right in the middle of this debate. With your support, we can help all our students reach their potential and independence. Thank You Final Comments
