Adam is determined to make a great first impression.

ALWAYS include a cover letter with your resume.

Find out the name and title of the individual who will be receiving your letter.

Do not use “form” letters Personalize each letter.

Business format Make sure the letter is PERFECT!

Use a word processing program laser printer quality paper No flashy colors

One inch margin on all 4 sides Opening paragraph = purpose of the letter “I” statements and action verbs

Get to the point! Never exceed one page. Focus on skills and interests you can offer the employer or college Stress what you can do for the company or college Sound upbeat and confident Sell yourself!

Don’t mention salary Give a range – For example, “My earnings have ranged from $7 to $10 per hour in the various sales positions I have held.”

End by thanking the reader Make a specific suggestion for the next step Follow up as promised.

Before mailing answer with a “Yes”. Is it clear? Does it state exactly what I want it to state? Is it concise? Does it state what I want it to state in the fewest possible words? Is it well organized?
