About IEEE Comsoc l Comsoc is a technical society of IEEE l ComSoc is a community--a community consisting of diverse industry, government, and educational professionals with a common interest in advancing all communications technologies l ComSoc is a nonprofit organization that works closely with public/private organizations and educational institutions where members work and/or study

A brief history of Comsoc-Vn l 11/1996: MoU signed between IEEE and REV l 11/1999: MoU signed between IEEE Communications Society and REV l 3/2007: IEEE Vietnam section officially launched l 8/2007: discussed about possibility to setup Comsoc Chapter in Hanoi between IEEE Vietnam Section and REV l 3/2008: started collecting signatures of Comsoc members for chapter petition l 3/2008: petition with 13 signatures submitted to IEEE Vietnam Section l 10/2008: chapter formation officially announced

Scope of Activities l A technical subunit of IEEE Vietnam Section l Established according to the Communications Society Bylaws l Acting as a management body representing ComSoc to Vietnam l Fostering provision of ComSoc's technical and information services to the ComSoc members in Vietnam and promoting their participation in the ComSoc activities l Providing Comsoc members with valuable network enabling their personal and professional growth l Activities include guest speakers, workshops and seminars as well as social functions.

Objectives l To foster the provision of ComSoc's technical and information services within Vietnam l To promote the global and regional technical activities in Vietnam l To collaborate with other ComSoc chapters in the region to organize joint technical events. l To maintain an effective relation with the Radio- Electronic Association of Vietnam (REV) – the Sister Societies of Comsoc in Vietnam

Chapter Statistics (*) l Total 20 members l Member by grade  2 senior members  17 members  1 graduate student member l Member by geographic areas  11 members in Hanoi  9 members in Ho Chi Minh city (*) as of December 2008

Action Plan l To organize regularly 3 technical meetings l To collaborate with REV to organize an annual/biennial international conference in Vietnam (known as ATC) l To provide technical sponsorship to REV to publish a research journal (to be discussed) l To host Distinguished Lecturer Tour organized by Comsoc l To carry out membership development program to attract more members
