Test Corrections We are going to be correcting the Unit 1 test. This is to be done quietly…if you are talking you get a ZERO on your test. Write C/B on the bottom and your name Each questions is worth one point

Hooks and Background What is the purpose of a hook? Have out your hook worksheet What are some hooks that you created yesterday? Ex: Worldwide, 200 million children wake up every day and go to work instead of going to school. Of those 200 million children, 70% work in agriculture. Why do we need to include background in our introduction? Ex: In the short story “The Circuit,” by Francisco Jimenez, Panchito is a young boy travelling state to state with his family following the harvest. Due to his migrant life style, obtaining an education can be very difficult.

Thesis Statements 3 step process… 1. What is the topic/argument? 2. What is your opinion on that topic/argument? 3. What are the three ways that you are going to prove it? Ex: Francisco Jimenez utilizes figurative language in his short story in order to describe the setting of the house where he lives, the field that he toils in, and the school that he attends.
