Reasons Behind the Domination of Men in Civil Engineering in Britain

Facts High percentage of Men in Civil Engineering. Women still less than 10 percent of the civil engineering workforce. In Britain 13% of home university applicants in 2003 were women. Female representation has been estimated 6- 10% world wide in engineering. The UK economy is losing up to £23 billion a year because Britain’s civil and other engineering and technical professions are not employing enough women.

Other Facts. Most women find civil engineering uncomfortable to work. Engineering sometimes requires working with dirt. 7 times more boys than girls are likely to consider a career in Engineering.
