The School-to-Prison Pipeline is the steps that juveniles take to go to the juvenile justice system. The are five steps in total that the juveniles take. This five steps are failing public schools, zero tolerance and other school discipline, policing school hallways, disciplinary alternative schools, and court involvement and juvenile detention. Juveniles fail public schools because the classrooms are overcrowded, a lack of qualified teachers, and insufficient funding for extras lock students into second rate education environment. the zero tolerance police and other school discipline affects juveniles by students have been expelled for bringing nail clippers or scissors to school. Policing school hallways affect kids by students are far more to be subject to school based arrest than they were a generation ago. Disciplinary alternative schools affect kids by students who have been suspended or expelled have no right to an education at all. Court involvement and juvenile justice system are often denied procedural protection in courts.

 Three consequences that a juvenile might face in the school- to-prison pipeline are: 1. They might be homeless because if they choose to dropout of school, their parents might get mad at them and kick them out of the house. 2. They might get push out if they aren’t good students since the school want to keep kids that have good test scores. 3. They might not be in good health since they probably wont have anybody to take care of them. That mean they aren’t eating right and doesn’t have any where to stay to protect themselves from sever weather

 Tech Boston Academy contributes to the school-to-prison pipeline in three ways 1. There are a lot of police officers in the school hallways. A lot of police officers affects the kids by when a student misbehave, the will probably go to jail. 2. The “We Rise and Fall Together” moral contributes TBA to the school to prison pipeline because when a kid mess up, everyone have to pay the price. The other kids that get mad, will start to leave the school because of other people mistakes 3. The metal detectors contributes TBA to the school to pipeline because it make the kids fell like they are in prison so they might as well just go there.

 The juvenile justice system is here to help juveniles not to punish them. Depending on how serious your crime is, your get an amount of time in Juvie. Some times, juveniles get an adult sentence.  A kid that get caught up in the juvenile justice system might change there lives forever. The juvenile might also get sent to an adult prison for life even if they choose to change their life forever.  Some of the challenges that juveniles face is that some of the kids get sent to an adult prison for some they could of done. Some of the juvenile have the same age and did the same crime but the have different sentences in jail.

Breaking a RulePunishment 1. Starting a food fight. 2. Talking back to teacher 3. Stealing School Property 1. Cleans the cafeteria for a month. 2. All privileges taken away for a month. 3. Clean the hole school and lunch detention for two months

 In my opinion, I think there shouldn’t be a zero tolerance policy. I think that because every juvenile deserve a second chance. I also think that juveniles shouldn’t get suspended because of little mistakes that they make like bringing scissors to school.

 When a student is getting expelled, I think that the teacher should be trying to convince the principal on suspending or expelling the student. The student should be trying to convince the teacher and his/her parents that he/she shouldn’t get expelled.

 One strategies and three programs that I think will help stop push outs are: 1. More and new school recourses- I say that because then then the students will feel like they should learn if the materials are nice and new. 2. After school programs- I choose that because than the kids can get help with their home works. 3. Weekend study-because then they can review the things that they did during the school. 4. Summer school-because the kids can learn anything they missed doing the school year. 5. Summer programs-because then the kids can review what they learned during the school year and be advance one the next school year if they learned anything new

 The process that I think a kid should take when they are feeling pushed out is: 1. The kid should first tell there parents about it. 2. The parent should talk to the teacher face to face. 3. If that doesn’t work, the parent and the student should talk to the principle.
