School To Prison - Pipeline By :Orlando Soto

School To Prison Pipeline The school to prison pipeline is basically comparing school rules to how prison is. The school to prison pipeline is showing how jail is compared to school. For example is shows how some rules in school apply to some rules in jail. Another example is a school dress code which is like prison cause they either give you something to wear or a limit to what you can wear. Also it is like prison cause you have a certain amount of freedom in school and prison. There are lots of officers around school just like there are jail and they are each in a certain section. Another way that it is like jail is cause in the school the windows have bars behind them and I'm guessing its so they don’t get out. The price of education has risen over the years cause of the amount of people going into prison.

Consequences of school to prison pipeline One of the consequences is being a drop out which is like giving up or quitting on school and not going anymore Another consequence is being a push out, a push out is like being encouraged to stop going to school or to drop out by a teacher or adult Another consequence is feeling like your in prison cause of the rules in school.

How the juvenile system works The goal of the justice system is to place people under the age of 18 in a criminal area and to be held responsible for criminal acts. The main goal of the juvenile system is rehabilitation rather then punishment to juveniles.

Getting caught up in the justice system Those kids who get caught up in the justice system turn straight cause they see how it is to barely have freedom. Also they see how cruel it is in a cell so they stop doing what they are doing. They get a certain time in the detention center based on the crime that they committed.

Facts, Statics, and Problems in the justice system Problems that the juvenile detention system have is that they sometimes get over populated and crowded and that makes the education price go up higher. Also the school to prison pipeline contributes cause most children go to juvenile detention after dropping out or being pushed out.

Alternative Discipline Plan for School Level 1 Misbehavior – Going to the bathroom for more then 10 minutes. Consequence- Have to go and do community service for the school 2 hours a day Level 2 Misbehavior – Speaking when its not your turn to speak. Consequence- writing I will not do it again 10000 times on the white board Level 3 Misbehavior – Throwing paper across the room to a teacher Consequence- Having to clean the gum off the bottom of every table for the whole year.

Zero Tolerance Policy I honestly don’t like those policies at all cause of how fast things happen, I think after a crime everyone deserves a second chance cause people can change. You don’t know what happens at home either, you don’t know if they are abused by there parents and mistreated. Also they might have a mental problem and if that’s the case then the person who is suppose to be watching them should get in trouble.

Disciplinary Hearing Process I think a disciplinary hearing is like a group of teacher and superintendents sitting at a table with the person in trouble and victims with them. The right that the person in trouble should have is the right to tell there side of the story to see who's is getting in trouble. Another right they should have is that they should be able to say what the victim did to him before he did what he did and the person who does the act of bad first gets suspended first.

Strategies And Programs To Help 1. I think that a motivation program would help not push out or drop out students cause that would build up their confidence and make them want to stay in school. Also it would make them think that they are smart enough to make them want to stay in school. 2. Another way to help the students to not drop out is by giving them some extra help with school. Or by giving them a website to go learn more on the subject that they struggle on. 3. Also I think that another program that would help is a encouragement program. This program is basically giving them reasons to keep on going in school to keep on working. 4. A mental or foster home could help kids not drop out. Usually kids who drop out do not have a peaceful life at home. Its usual that they either get abused by there parents or they see a lot of violence in there home. 5.
