Swords Battle Axes Spears Shields

 Swords were typically only used by the elite members of Viking society.  Swords were used during battles for territory or during raids.  This weapon was very expensive to make, which is why use was restricted to only the elite.

 Viking spears were used during close fighting  This weapon had 2 points on the handle protruding out wider than the blade to prevent the weapon from being lodged in an enemy during battle.

 The battle axe was the most commonly used Viking weapon.  Viking warriors swung down on their opponents and struck them on their back.  The Vikings were very precise with where their battle axes landed, making this the most dangerous weapon in the Viking warriors arsenal.

 Shields were used as a means of defense for the Vikings against enemy attacks.  Some shields had holsters screwed onto the back to allow for a spot for Viking warriors to put their arms to avoid letting go of the shield during battle.
