MISSION We promote, support and advocate for the effective delivery of adult and family literacy services in Florida.

Training and Technical Assistance FLC offers professional development opportunities which provide literacy practitioners and volunteers with tools and resources to enhance program quality.

We have offered 28 training opportunities including: ESOL Tutor Training Health Literacy Basic Literacy Tutor Training Classroom Technology Introduction to Grant Writing Administrators’ Round Table Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Adult Education Research Learning Disabilities Using Poetry in the Classroom

Promoting Student Involvement and Leadership Literacy Ambassador Training Program Regional Adult Learner Leadership Trainings Adult Learner Day Student Essay Book Success Factors in High Achieving Adult Learners; A Case Study Analysis

Supporting Volunteer Based Literacy Train the Trainer Course Trainer Coaching Corps Tutor Training 3 rd Annual Literacy Leadership Institute Americorps VISTA State Project

Promoting Literacy and the Toll Free Literacy Hotline FLC promotes reading and raises awareness about literacy issues in Florida. A trained referral specialist provides on call information about education programs and volunteer opportunities throughout the state. Governor Recognizes September as Florida Adult and Family Literacy Month Partnership with Newspapers and Education programs. July-March, 1,175 referrals were made.

Resource Sharing, Networking and Communications  One hundred and eight different resources are available free through our Clearinghouse.  The Literacy News Newsletter  E-Literacy News  Discussion Lists.  Website: State Partner of the National Institute for Literacy’s LINCS system. Since July, our website has logged over 65,700 visitors.

Florida Literacy Conference One of Florida’s premier literacy events, this three day annual conference offers a wide range of training and networking opportunities to literacy practitioners and volunteers. Date: May 7-9, 2008 at the Grosvenor Hotel at Walt Disney World Resort
