Summer Reading to Go 2012 Dream Big READ Springfield-Greene County Library District Night Time Books: Blackout by John Rocco Henry’s Night by D.B. Johnson and Linda Michelin Amy’s Light by Robert Nutt Supplies for Firefly Picture: Pipecleaners Construction paper Tacky glue Q-tips Ink pad Wet wipes Glue trays Procedures: Remind the children that we’ve been talking about big dreams. Explain to the children that the books that we will be reading today are all about the night time. Ask the children the following question: What happens during the night time? Blackout Introduce the book to the children by reading the title and showing the children the illustration on the cover of the book. Ask the children the following questions: What is the Caldecott Medal? Who receives the Caldecott Medal? * The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist (illustrator) of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Explain to the children that the book contains detailed pictures and little text. The pictures help to tell the story. Read the book to the children. While reading be sure to periodically stop and ask the children questions about the story.

Partner Site Staff Evaluation Did Library staff arrive on time and prepared for the weekly session? Which activities did the kids enjoy the most? What was least popular? How often each week did you schedule reading time for the kids? Were the programming tubs prepared adequately for you to present the session? Do you feel you had adequate training to carry out the program at your site? Library Staff Evaluation What about the program worked best? What didn't work so well, or as planned? What do you think we could do differently? Do you think we met the program goals?
