West Australian Tourism By Grace Silvestro-Maller

Welcome to the West Western Australia has so much to offer! Picturesque desert landscapes Deep jade forests and vast vineyards Warm sandy beaches, crystal seas and corals reefs Vast mountain ranges and forest trails thriving with native flora and fauna Hundreds of destinations all available right across the state of Western Australia attracting thousands of international tourists every year!

The 5 main tourism regions of Western Australia 1. Experience Perth 2. Australia's Coral Coast 3. Australia's Golden Outback 4. Australia's North West 5. Australia's Southwest

Experience Perth Perth is the capitol city of Western Australia It’s a thriving metropolis situated in the south west of the state. There are many tourist attractions: - the bustling shopping district - booming nightlife of Northbridge - quiet and relaxing family parks and nature reserves such as Kings Park In 2007 “2 million Intrastate visitors, 1 million Interstate visitors and 631,300 International visitors stayed overnight in Experience Perth.” (“Experience Perth” Regional Tourism Perspective.n.d) “Perth is the sunniest capital city in the world, with an average 8 hours per day sunshine 365 days per year.” (“Discover West Holidays” Interesting Facts.n.d)

Australia's Coral Coast Home to magnificent coral reefs and marine habitats. Its one of Australia’s top holiday destinations This region was chosen for holidaying and general leisure purposes by 91% of International visitors and 59% of Domestic visitors (“Australia’s Coral Coast” Regional Tourism Perspective. n.d) “More than 85 per cent of Australians live within 50km of the coast, making it an integral part of our laid-back lifestyle.” (“About Australia” Australia’s Facts. n.d.)

Australia’s Golden Outback This region spreads across the majority of western australia Visit the pristine beaches of Esperance Explore Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields and relive the days of the West Australian Gold rush (“Welcome to West Australia’s Golden Outback”. n.d). “Kalgoorlie in Western Australia is Australia's largest producer of gold” (“About Australia” Australia’s Facts. n.d.) This region received around 636,000 intrastate,101,000 interstate and 52,900 international visitors in (“Australia’s Golden Outback” Regional Tourism Perspective. n.d)

Australia’s North West Discover the dramatic landscape of the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. The Pilbara is a very popular tourist destination, the area dates back over 2 billion years The Pilbra stretches over 400,000 square km (“The Pilbara” Australia’s North West. n.d) Holidaying in the north you’ll find: -untouched freshwater pools - endless bush camping - four-wheel driving trails Cable beach in Broome is a popular holiday destination. More than 56, 8900 people from all over Australia and the globe visited the North West in the year (“Australia’s North West” Regional Tourism Perspective. n.d)

Australia's South West Rockingham, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Margaret River and Albany are the most popular and well known destinations in the south west. Restaurants, vineyards and secluded Bed & Breakfasts’ are scattered along the way. 84% of international visitors choose this region of Australia to holiday. 60% of intrastate and interstate visitors also choose the south west to holiday. (“Australia’s South West” Regional Tourism Perspective. n.d) Rottnest Island is situated just 19km off the coast of Fremantle and is Western Australia’s premier island getaway. (“Experience Rottness Island” About Rottness Island n.d)

Design Principals For this assignment we were required to present the information we gathered for the previous assignment in a PowerPoint presentation. We view PowerPoint presentations every day in university lectures which helped me to get an idea of how it should be presented. I chose to include simple dot point sentences as well as the most interesting quotes and facts I gathered about Australian tourism. When viewing a PowerPoint one is often taking notes and briefly glancing at images so including the most relevant information in a simple tone was essential so that the most important information was communicated. Both this slide, design principals, and the references slide obviously don’t follow this pattern as the assignment requires specific information in both. I utilized the same images as in the first assignment, enlarging them and placing them next to the text. I like my work to appear uniform and for the information to be easily received I used a simple slide layout of text and images. “ Organization is central to good design” (Evans and Thomas p 156) The font also is highly legible allowing the pages to appear organized and uncluttered. The use of the same font all throughout the assignment continues this feeling of unity. When considering a slide design for my layout I wanted something bright, colourful and eye catching. I chose ‘mountain top’. This design is bright and simple with a landscape silhouette at the bottom. This design reminded me of the Australian landscape and I thought it fitted well with my subject. “Colour must support the communication message…Content determines colour” (Evans and Thomas p142) I chose the bright blue colour scheme as it represented the wonderful weather, bright skies and blue seas of Western Australia. I used bright red text for my titles as a contrast to the blue, drawing on the colours of the desert outback. I used the corresponding colours of the titles from slide 3 in each corresponding slide. The animation schemes I used throughout the assignment are all eye catching and engaging. The first 3 and the last 2 slides all have different exciting animations while the 5 slides with the main bulk of information all utilize the same animation movement again to create flowing harmony and to appear uniform. I used the ‘credit’ animation for the references slide as it was the last one in the assignment. I used two sounds in my presentation at the start to introduce my topic. Both sounds are uplifting melodic sounds encapsulating a feeling of freedom and adventure which is what taking a holiday is all about! The sounds set the tone for the upbeat and exciting nature of writing throughout the assignment.
