2 Geography Fiji is located in the South Western Pacific of the Southern Hemisphere in the tropics between Vanuatu and Tonga and it is 3000km from north east Australia. It has 320 islands which 106 of those islands are permanently inhabited by humans and most of the islands are volcanic. Also the main two islands in Fiji are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The total area of Fiji is km² and the coastline in total is 1129km. Currently in 2013, Fiji’s population is which 51% are male and 49% are female. Fiji is a republic country and they have a very strong economy also it is one of the most developed Pacific Islands in the world.

3 Climate and Weather Fiji has a warm tropical climate and the temperature there is between 26 degrees and 31 degrees all year round. The best time to go to Fiji for a holiday is from late March to early December as it is sunny and hot. But Fiji has a wet season which is from November to April and it rains a lot during this season. Fiji is known for tropical cyclones as they have averagely around 15 cyclones per decade and normally two to four of them cause damage.

4 Marine Environment Fiji has one of the best tropical marine environments in the world, this attracts heaps of tourists. There is approximately 1000 coral reefs which covers square kilometres. This is 3 to 4 percent of the world’s coral reefs. Also Fiji is home to the third largest barrier reef in the world called the Great Sea Reef. Fiji has heaps of underwater life because of its warm water.

5 Major Cities In Fiji there are two major cities, Nadi and Suva. Nadi is located on the west coast of Viti Levu and Suva is located on the east coast of Viti Levu.

6 Flora Fiji has over 2600 species of plant life and 113 unique types of flora because Fiji has a tropical climate along with its geographic location in the Pacific Ocean. The beaches of Fiji are covered with different types of pine trees. The best place to see Fiji’s flora is at Kula Eco Park where you can walk through the rainforest or explore the bushwalk while seeing heaps of flora.

7 Fauna Fiji’s fauna includes birds, reptiles and mammals. Fiji has more then 100 bird species and it is a paradise for bird lovers. It has 30 species of reptiles which 12 are common. There are also 15 mammal species in Fiji which 1 is critically endangered and 1 is endangered.
