Romeo He is a Montague who is around sixteen years old. He is impulsive, immature, and passionate. He married his wife when she was 13. He gets Mercutio killed when he tries to break up a fight between Mercutio and Tybalt. He kills Tybalt for killing Mercutio. He secretly marries Juliet, then kills himself when he thinks she’s dead. Juliet She got married when she was very young. She is a Capulet who is around 13 years old. Her mom wants her to marry Paris, but she thinks she’s too young to marry (until she meets Romeo). She secretly marries Romeo, fakes her death by drinking a sleeping potion so she can sneak away with Romeo, but then wakes up and kills herself when she finds Romeo dead. Nurse She has taken care of Juliet her entire life. She talks too much. She originally wants Juliet to marry Paris. She helps Juliet secretly marry Romeo.

Benvolio He is Romeo’s cousin and best friend. He hates violence. Mercutio He is Romeo’s friend, and a cousin of the Prince. He doesn’t believe in love…only hooking up with girls. He gets killed by Tybalt when Romeo tries to break up the fight. Tybalt He is Juliet’s cousin. He likes to fight, and hates all Montagues. He tries to pick a fight with Romeo, but Romeo won’t fight him because he’s Juliet’s cousin. He kills Mercutio when Romeo tries to break up the fight.

Friar Lawrence He is a Catholic holy man. He is a friend and mentor of Romeo and Juliet. He wants to end the fight between the two families, so he agrees to secretly marry them. He is good at making potions and medicines out of plants. Friar John Friar Lawrence asks him to deliver a letter to Romeo about Juliet’s fake death. He doesn’t give the letter to Romeo because he is detained in a quarantined house because of the plague. Apothecary He is a pharmacist who makes medicine, drugs, and poison. He sells poison to Romeo because he needs the money.

Prince Escalus He is the Prince of Verona. He breaks up the fight at the beginning of the play. He threatens to kill the next person who starts a fight between the two families. Paris He is a Cousin of the Prince. He wants to marry Juliet even though she is young. Capulet asks him to wait 2 years to marry Juliet at first, but later tries to force Juliet to marry him immediately. Rosaline She is a beautiful girl who Romeo loves at the beginning of the play. She has made a vow of chastity. She is not interested in Romeo.

Lord Capulet He married his wife when she was around 13. He tells Paris that Juliet can marry him in two years. He later tries to force Juliet to marry Paris. He is an enemy of the Montagues. Lady Capulet She got married when she was very young. She had Juliet when she was around 13 or 14. She wants Juliet to marry Paris. She let the nurse breast feed and raise Juliet. Lord and Lady Montague They are Romeo’s parents. They are enemies of Capulets.
