Hi! My name is Jamila, and I am 12 years old. My religion is Arabic and I speak Arabic too. Even though I love my country, I hope to live in the United States one day so I don’t have to bother about fighting about religion! I am here to tell you all about my country: Lebanon! Get ready to تعلم (learn)!

 The capital of my country is Beirut.  My country’s 4 provinces consist of North Lebanon, Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Begaa Valley, and South Lebanon.  Most of the provinces in my country are divided into smaller districts. Beirut 4 Provinces

 90% of the people in my country are Arabs (including me).  The other main religions in my country are Christian and Muslim.  My government hasn’t taken a census since 1932 because of fights between religious groups. The Pope

 Most of the traditional houses in my country are made from limestone. They have limestone walls and floors and the roofs are made from orange tiles.  Traditional Lebanese women in my country still wear religious long dresses with trousers underneath around the house. Traditional Lebanese Home

 Our law says that Lebanese children do not need to attend schools.  In my country most of the public schools are free (I go to a public school).  My country has some successful colleges including The Lebanese University, and the American University of Beirut(which is the oldest college in Lebanon being built in 1866). A Syrian School A Lebanese Private School

 Our highest peak is Qurnat Sawda, being 10, 115 ft. tall in the Lebanon mountains.  In my country, the Lebanon Mountains are most widely known. They run from the northern area of my country to the southern area, about 100 miles long.  Another known range in my country is the Anti-Lebanon Range. It runs along our eastern border. This range is my personal favorite because it’s right in my backyard!

Pigeons’ Rock (my favorite landform)

 The average temperature in my country in January is 55˚F.  The average temperature in June is 84˚F.  Around here, we get about 35 inches of rain annually! A beautiful landscape in my country

 Manufacturing and agriculture are the main ways my country stays alive.  We mostly trade with Saudi Arabia and Syria. A city in my country

 Kibbeh (my personal favorite)~ a beef or lamb dish that contains wheat, cinnamon, and onions  Cucumber Yogurt Salad~ my favorite side/dessert dish that includes mint, yogurt, cucumbers, and garlic  Falafel (a popular dish that I despise)~ a gross (in my opinion) dish that includes garlic, onions, chickpeas, potatoes, and flour >:( Falafel 

 Alfred Basbous~ he is my favorite sculptor and my mother has 2 of his pieces  Fairouz~ my mom’s favorite singer (she plays him on our record player all the time so I kind of had to get used to him ) Alfred Basbous

 When it is 8:55 PM in the United States, it is 3:54 AM where I live, Beirut, Lebanon.  Some things that my friends and I love to do in my country are play soccer, swim at the beaches, go see movies, and ski (in the winter).  Our main meal is eaten from 12:00 (noon) to 3:00 in the afternoon. This meal usually lasts about 2 hours for us. Soccer Skiing
